Neuro-Ophthalmology evaluates diseases of the central nervous system that affect the visual system. Therefore, you can say Neuro-ophthalmology is at the anatomy, physiology, clinical disorders or treatment of the afferent visual pathway, higher cortical visual systems, the vascular tree relevant to the retina and optic nerve, pupils, eye movements and pain.
Other medical diseases, such as diabetes and thyroid disease that impact on the visual system, are also managed. Special testing techniques are available including visual fields, visual evoked response (VERs), and imaging studies such as CT, MRI, magnetic resonance angiography and ultrasound. The section works closely with Neurology, Neurosurgery, General Medicine, and Obstetrics and Gynecology to offer multidisciplinary care for complex cases.
